Happy Star Wars Day! May the 4th Be With You!

RAAAWRRR! Hello TechnoCubs! It’s TechBear, and I’m super excited to celebrate Star Wars Day with you! I’m taking a break from fighting the Dark Side of technology to celebrate May the 4th with y’all!

That’s right, honey, it’s May 4th! You know what that means – “May the Fourth be with you!”

Happy Star Wars Day, everyone! Just like Obi-Wan Kenobi helped Luke learn about the Force, I’m here to offer easy home tech support. I want to help you with your home technology. I’ll guide you through the galaxy of technology! If you’re trying to figure out your printer or have mastered taking screenshots, I can help. The power of technology is for everyone!

TechBear at #Minnebar19: AI Tools and My New App, ‘Friday’

I have some exciting news! I was at #Minnebar19 yesterday. It’s a cool “un-conference” where tech experts in Minnesota meet! I talked a lot, and my paws are beat from all the networking! I shared information about my new app project, “Friday” (like having your own ‘gal Friday’). “Friday” will give you smart voice reminders for your calendar events.

I also learned a lot about AI tools. We don’t need to fear them. These AI systems are changing how we work. Like any good tool, it’s all in how we use them! For example, we can use AI to make our work faster and have more time for creative things. At #Minnebar19, I learned that understanding AI is important for the future.

I’ll be taking a short break tomorrow for “Cinco de Mayo: The Empire Eats Snacks” (because the Dark Side has cookies, y’all!) and “Maintenance Monday” on May 5th. Even this tech-savvy bear needs to recharge! I’m looking forward to some sweet sun tea on my back porch.

Keeping Your Tech Safe and Up-to-Date

It’s important to keep your technology updated. This isn’t just about having the newest gadgets. It’s about staying safe online and being productive. Updates often include security patches. These patches protect your devices. I talked about this in detail in my article on Managing Security Updates. I urge you to check it out. If you don’t update your devices, you could be at risk for cyber threats. These threats can cause serious problems.

Most operating systems allow automatic updates. Here’s how to trigger them manually:

  • Windows: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click “Check for updates.”
  • macOS: Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
  • Android: Open the Settings app, and look for “System” or “System Updates.” The exact path may vary depending on your device’s manufacturer and Android version, but it’s usually found near “About phone” or “About tablet”.
  • iOS: Open the Settings app, tap “General,” then “Software Update.”

Once you’ve started the updates, you can step away from your computer and mobile devices. Then you can enjoy the original trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) again while they install them unattended..

Quick Tech Tip: Update Your Software!

Here’s a quick tech tip! It’s easier than hitting a womp rat in a T-16: Please update your software! I know updates always seem to happen at the worst time. But they often include important security updates. These updates protect your devices from the Dark Side of the internet! For more information, visit the US-CERT (United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team) website. It has the latest advice on how to protect yourself.

Remember, my TechnoCubs: If you fear technology, you’ll get frustrated. Frustration leads to keyboard smashing, and that leads to calling your tech-savvy nephew in a panic! And nobody wants that on a Sunday evening.

Celebrating Star Wars Day!

Today, we celebrate a fun play on words and a huge cultural event. Star Wars has inspired many new things in technology and storytelling. It continues to bring fans together around the world. To add some fun to your May 4th celebration, check out this collection of Star Wars memes and fun facts on the official Star Wars website.

Until Tuesday, may the Fourth be with you, always! And may your Wi-Fi signal be stronger than a Wookiee’s grip!

About TechBear

Greetings, TechnoCubs! TechBear is a Jedi Knight of the digital frontier, sworn to uphold the balance of the Force… the Force of Technology, that is. His journey began long ago, in a galaxy far, far away (perhaps a forgotten sector of the internet), where he honed his skills in the ancient ways of the code. He wields a lightsaber of pure data, deflecting viruses and banishing the dreaded “Blue Screen of Death”. Some say he can speak fluent binary with R2-D2, and that he once won a podrace on a souped-up Roomba.

TechBear is the sassy alter ego of Jason, the founder and brains behind Gymnarctos Studios. For more tech advice with attitude, subscribe to Gymnarctos Studios’ weekly newsletter or follow @gymnarctosstudiosllc on social media. Got burning tech questions? Want to be featured in a future column? Email GymnarctosStudiosLLC@gmail.com with the subject “Ask TechBear” and prepare for helpful answers (and a little roasting).

May the code be with you, always.
